IMO STATE OVERVIEW:

Imo State was created in 1976 alongside other new states made under the administration of the late military leader, Murtala Muhammad, having been already a part of East-Central State. The state is named after the Imo River in 1991 some part of it was separated to form Imo State, and another part to be Ebonyi State. The primary urban communities in Imo State are Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu. The Orashi River has its source in this state. The local dialect is Igbo although English is the official language and Christianity is the main religion.
