BENUE STATE OVERVIEW:

Benue is a state in the mid-belt area of Nigeria with its capital as Makurdi. Benue is a word from the Batta language 'Binuwe' which means 'Mother of Waters'. The dominant language is Idoma and Tiv. There are other ethnic groups like, Igede, Nyifon,Hausa, Akweya,Abakwa, Jukun,and Etulo. Benue is rich in farming lands; some crops grown there are potatoes, cassava, soya bean, guinea corn, flax, yams, sesame, rice,and nuts. Benue State is named after the Benue River and was formed from the previous Benue-Plateau State in 1976, alongside Igala and some part of Kwara State.
